July 2019

More than just fun

It was recently on a family trip that I was reminded of the importance of our role and impact that the tourism industry plays.  Just for clarity sake, I have three boys under the age of eight.  It is a family trip, NOT a vacation!  Of course, on family trips the focus is fun!  But as an industry we are selling so much more!  We are selling memories, first times, new beginnings and time together. It is through that lens that we are also trying to showcase our communities.  We are continually trying to secure new visitors and guests to our community.

Therefore, it is important to keep that in mind when we are marketing and planning. Having a wide variety of activities during all times of the year will assist in making your community in being the ‘chosen one’.  It is also crucial that your attractions and activities appeal to all age groups. This is one way to ensure those lasting memories!

Keeping with traditions and trying new events alike will keep your community viable and a place families will return to year after year.  As ambassadors of our communities I think it’s important for us be reminded of this significant role that we play in our visitors’ journeys and to take great pride in having a hand in helping those visitors create those life-long memories.
