It’s Official, Happy Spring!

The large piles of snow we thought we might have well into July have begun to melt, and in some areas you may actually see bare ground!  It has been a long winter and a rough start to spring with some serious flooding in parts of the state.  Nevertheless, we’ll do what we always do when Mother Nature throws us for a loop; we smile, grab our pompoms and highlight the amazing communities that we represent!

The weather hasn’t been the only thing a little unpredictable.  As the legislative session reaches full swing, we see some key issues and some bills hitting the House and Senate related to tourism.  Todd and Tony, our legislative team are doing a great job staying on top of all the moving parts at the capital.  Our Public Policy Committee is meeting every couple of weeks or as needed, and I would encourage anyone that is interested to join in on our conference calls.  There are some items coming down the pipeline that we may request our membership to reach out to their legislators for support.

If you haven’t already done so, make sure to sign up for our Education Summit coming up on June 4-5 at Blue Fin Bay on Lake Superior, located in Tofte.  Our friends at Visit Cook County along with our Education Committee have put together a fantastic couple of days packed full of education and of course networking!  The first day will focus on Building Your Brand (And Your Budget) Through Partnerships.  Hear from industry leaders how they are leveraging their relationships in their community, region and state to build brand awareness and increase their budget.  The second day we’ll look at Keeping An Eye on the Big Picture.  Sometimes it’s easy to get stuck in the weeds and only focus on what’s in front of us.  This will give you a chance to take a step back and see what’s happening with our industry as it relates to the big picture and how it can and will affect every one of us.

Lastly, I would like to extend an invitation for you to get involved.  Whether it’s a committee, project, or event we would love to add your knowledge and expertise to help grow the association.  If you are interested let Dee or I know where we can plug you in.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Now more than ever we see the importance of the travel and tourism industry telling their story, showing their value, and measuring the impact.  We have seen proof, first hand, that “tourism is the Front Door to Economic Development.” The level and the roles at which we as DMO/CVB’s need to get involved on a local level continue to grow and increase.
